Cheese In Pop Culture (by Lenni Slaughter)
Cheese has always been an extremely hilarious thing. In fact, the mere mention of the word "cheese" is enough to make one roll on the floor giggling. Cheese has been subject to modern Internet humour too, with many videos being homages to cheese.
One of the first uses of cheese in comedy is the Cheese Shop sketch, from the British sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus. The sketch aired on the BBC in 1972. It is, simply enough, about a cheese shop that possesses no cheese. While slightly overshadowed by other sketches, Cheese Shop is iconic, and a haunting reminder that cheese could disappear at any moment.
More uses of cheeeeese in British comedy is in Wallace and Gromit. They even travel to the moon in a crude rocket for cheese.
